Number Crunchin’ – The Benchwarmers

youngAt what point does it become about player development rather than trying to win in a lost cause. Over the past few weeks I have been trying to understand the logic of a coach playing Nick Young only about 15 minutes a night when no experience is greater than being in the game. Players like Roko Ukic, Nick Young, Haddadi may be better served by being able to make mistakes and get experience that actually will help them in the long run. I understand the fans of these teams may not be thrilled to watch these guys play but the team has invested in them, they are hoping these players are part of the teams future… wouldn’t it be wise to get the future off the bench and onto the court for some real NBA experience.

The Night in Numbers:
42 Minutes played by Josh Smith (22pts-12rbs) in a win snapping Utah’s 12 game win streak – should keep him in Woodsen’s good grace’s… for now!
5 Jazz players scored in double figures – didn’t help them as they lost to the Hawks playing their 3rd game in 4 nights
1 13pt 15rb Double-Double for Marcin Gortat in 24 minutes as the Magic were all over the Bulls who only shot 31% from the field
4 Points in 30 minutes for Ben Gordon – probably still recovering from the 50 minutes he played against Miami
2 Quarter had the Sixers outscore the Raptors by 17 which pretty much sealed the W – Thaddeus Young led the way with 29 Points
21 Points for Andrea Bargnani on a night where he was battling flu like symptoms yet was still the best player in Raptor red
30-10-13 Triple-Double for Chris Paul on a very efficient 11-16 shooting as the Hornets got a 40 Point 3rd Q to put away the Wizard’s
48 of the 98 points scored by the Wiz came from their big two… *PAGING AGENT ZERO!*
4 Pistons players scored 20+ points but still came out on the losing end against the Knicks
30.5 PPG average for Larry Hughes over the last 2 games to help the Knicks win their 2nd in as many nights
32 Points for D Wade as he strengthens his chances for MVP by defeating the defending champs
0-6 From the floor in 24 minutes for Stephon Marbury – welcome back to reality son!
2 Lottery bound teams with a combined record of 35-92 faced off as the Timberwolves stomped all over the Grizzlies
48 Rebounds for the Wolves as they out rebounded the Grizz by 20!!
116 Points put up by the Warriors as they out rebounded the Nets by 16 to get the win
28% shooting from the floor from Vince Carter against the no defense playing Warrior’s
13 Players scored in double figures in the Nuggets v/s Thunder game as the Nuggets came out with the W
30 turnovers between the two teams – it was that kinda ugly!
2:29 Minute mark the game was tied at 86 a piece, but the Lakers were able to turn it up, outscoring the Rockets 16-10 to end the game
23 Turnovers for the Rockets on a night when the Lakers shot 50%, and out rebounded the Rockets (Yao with only 6rbs)
12 Game home winning streak came to a halt as the Mavericks came into the Rose garden and took down the Blazers
35% Shooting from the field as Brandon Roy felt he was having an off night – word is he was downing “Pepto” during timeout’s

Heard Last Night:
Ron Artest was jawing at Kobe through the game which called for a response from Kobe post-game. “He must have lost his mind talking (trash) to me,” Bryant said, referring to Artest. (read more quotes here)
